Tax Advisory Service Group, LLC Welcomes Ron Sass as a Senior Manager

Former IRS Senior Fuel Excise Tax Policy Analyst Joins Our Growing Excise Tax Consulting Team

Aug 23, 2016

Tax Advisory Services Group, LLC (TASG), a full service tax advisory service provider, has named Ron Sass as its newest Sr. Manager.

Ron, who had been an IRS Senior Revenue Agent and Senior Policy Analyst, joins our strong team of indirect taxation professionals. Ron’s focus will be across-the-board excise tax consulting and compliance with lead roles for IRS excise tax matters. In addition, Ron has recently developed a unique high performance action planning and business operations review process that will continue to receive his attention.

Before joining TASG, Ron’s IRS experiences included taxpayer examinations, excise tax exam classification, development of audit technique procedures through authorship of Internal Revenue Manual sections, Audit Technique Guides, and Policy and Procedure Memorandums, as well as revenue agent classroom instruction. He also worked closely with the IRS Joint Operation Center, ExSTARS, and Form 637 Registration Units, and served as an internal and external stakeholder contact person in support of technical and procedural taxpayer issues.

Prior to the IRS, Ron spent more than 20 years as a CPA in the greater New York City area, advising a wide variety of business clients on tax and financial reporting matters and helped clients resolve a host of business challenges elemental to all operations. During the same period Ron also owned a number of small business entities (i.e., a bookkeeping/payroll company, residential cleaning service, retail photofinishing, liquor store, and restaurant).

"The expansion of our excise tax consulting team further strengthens our ability to meet the needs of our customers," noted Khristine Espinoza, Partner of TASG. "Ron's comprehensive understanding of IRS excise tax policies, procedures, and operations will greatly benefit TASG and our clients." Ron has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from CUNY York College.

He and his wife Sarah live in Raleigh, NC.

Federal Government Shutdown – Impact on Internal Revenue Service Functions
Oct 7, 2013
At 12.01am on October 1, 2013, after Congress failed to reach an agreement to fund the government, the federal government shut down.  This has a huge impact on many government agencies including the functions of the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”).  While the government remains shutdown, the IRS will be operating in a very limited mode.  To that end:

  • Audits and other proceedings before the IRS including meetings and proceedings before IRS appeals will likely be postponed or suspended.  Pending audits and meetings will effectively be canceled to be rescheduled for a later date when the government is funded and re-opens;
  • Processing of Applications for Registration on Form 637 will be delayed;
  • Both the Office of Chief Counsel and Field Offices will operate in a very limited capacity, delaying the issuance of guidance and response to inquiries on tax-related questions;
  • Refunds will continue to be processed but may be delayed.

Please note that all tax returns and payments must continue to be filed and paid in a timely manner during a government shutdown, although they may not be processed by the IRS until the government re-opens.
